BACK TO THE HOMELAND: PART 1

Back to the homeland once more to recharge “Las Pilas”. Guaymas Sonora my home town, walking up to the door step of my pad in Mexico made me feel at home again. I love USA but there’s something about the homeland that can’t be equalized.

This pad has a crazy history from being a small horse stable back in the 50s to when one night the house burned down because of an electrical dysfunction. As well as how a lot of people love to visit our house every day.

These walls have experienced a lot history and events in our family through out the years, they been burned down and rebuilt but the history and traditions still live in them. “Las Paredes No Mienten”.

“Las Cahuamas” that are empty have been drunk and recycled millions of times and are waiting for that next trade, over in Mexico in order to purchase a Cahuama or 40 you need to take your empty bottle and trade it with the new one and some change that’s why beer is so cheap over there, you don’t pay for the bottle just the liquid.

The classic gas tank gets replaced about every month in order to have gas for the stove. “Humilde pero it works”.

The Tinaco is a water holder that keeps water as it comes in from the valley. When ever water stops running this works as a back up system since it’s filled completely at all time it also saves you a lot of money on your bill.

Back then when there was no “Lavadoras” in Mexico people washed their clothing by the river and still do, some pads have “La Pila” a small pool like structure that holds water next to a “Lavador” where in order to wash your clothing you have to scrub the shit out of each piece of clothing and then grabbing water from the Lavador and washing the soap off. Classic, it also works great as a mini pool for little kids, well at least that’s what I used it as too. Hehe.

Las “Botellas” are ready to be traded and refilled and the fresh warm tortillas are ready and chilling by the Platito De Menudo. Aghh finally home sweet home, I can get used to this.
